A Letter to Lilly

Once upon a time…

There was a daddy and a mama who were madly in love.

They were very happy because God was going to send them someone very special…their very own little Lilly Evelyne.

They told all their friends about the wonderful gift God was giving them, and everyone laughed and cheered.

It was a very happy time.

Then one day the Mommy knew that God was sending Lilly soon. She and the Daddy hurried to the hospital to wait for Lilly to arrive.

They waited…and waited…and waited.

“Please come soon, sweet Lilly,” they begged. “We can’t wait to see you!”

And still they waited.

Finally, after a very long time, little Lilly arrived. She was SO beautiful, everyone wanted to laugh and cry at the same time.

Pretty soon other people came to see the beautiful baby. Lilly’s Daddy’s daddy and mama came, and her Mama’s daddy and mama came. They were all so, so happy.

Then something happened.

Baby Lilly became sick. Sometimes she even stopped breathing.

A great big helicopter came to carry Lilly away to another hospital. Up into the cold gray sky Lilly flew with the nice nurses that made sure she was warm inside her little see-through bed.

No one was smiling now. All the laughs fell away, and people were crying instead. They were afraid that Baby Lilly was very, very sick…so sick that she would never get to play with them and laugh and have fun.

That’s when the very good thing happened. All the people that loved Lilly – and that was a WHOLE lot of people, way more than a hundred – they all talked to God about Lilly and begged Him to make her better.

“God, please heal Lilly.”

“God, please help Lilly get better.”

“God, please make Lilly so well that everybody knows You did it.”

And He did.

At the new hospital, the doctors were very nice but very serious.

“Lilly is very sick,” they said. “She will need to stay here for two whole weeks. She can’t go to her new bed and meet her puppy Lucky until she has done three things…

“She must learn to breathe without a machine…

“She must go a whole day with not ONE scary seizure…

“And she must be able to eat without tubes.”

Lilly’s daddy and mama watched and waited. God heard their prayers, and in almost no time Baby Lilly was cuddled up to her mama, eating without tubes and breathing on her own and having no seizures.

It was a miracle!

And everyone, far and near, who had been praying for Lilly began to laugh and praise God for loving Baby Lilly and her daddy and mama SO much that He would make her better than anyone had imagined.

And they all knew…they would live happily ever after.

Not because bad things would never happen.

But because God would always be right there to make everything better than they could dream.

ALL BECAUSE OF JESUS…who loves all the baby Lillies of the world.

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

    1. Thank you so much, my sweet friend! It IS such a miracle, the kind we always need to remember when bad times come. God is always faithful. If only I remembered all the times in my own life.
