How Great Thou Art

There’s something unspeakably satisfying about having your kids love something you’ve loved.

At a gospel music singing the other day, my kids heard the wonderful old hymn, “How Great Thou Art.” Since then, they’ve been singing it and talking about how much they love it.

When I was their age, I know I didn’t recognize how awesome the song is; I wasn’t into “Thees” and “Thous.” It wasn’t until I was a teenager trying to plunk some decent chords on my guitar on the front porch under the stars that I fell in love with the song, and more importantly, with the Creator who inspires any great worship song.

Oh, how great He has been to me! Every word of this song is true. Kind of makes me want to get my old guitar.

In case you’ve got a geetar of your own, or even if you don’t, here are the words so you can sing right along to my Saviour God – He is SO GREAT!

Oh Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder consider all the worlds Thy hands have made,

I see the stars; I hear the rolling thunder – Thy power throughout the universe displayed.

Then sings my soul, my Saviour, God, to Thee – how great Thou art! How GREAT Thou art!

Then sings my soul, my Saviour, God, to Thee – how great Thou art! How GREAT Thou art!

When through the woods and forest glades I wander, and hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees,

When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur and hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze,

Then sings my soul, my Saviour, God, to Thee – how great Thou art! How GREAT Thou art!

Then sings my soul, my Saviour, God, to Thee – how great Thou art! How GREAT Thou art!

And when I think that God, His Son not sparing, sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in.

That on the cross, my burdens gladly bearing, He bled and died to take away my sin!

Then sings my soul, my Saviour, God, to Thee – how great Thou art! How GREAT Thou art!

Then sings my soul, my Saviour, God, to Thee – how great Thou art! How GREAT Thou art!

When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation and take me home, what JOY shall fill my heart!

Then I shall bow in humble adoration, and there proclaim, “My God, HOW GREAT THOU ART!!!”

Then sings my soul, my Saviour, God, to Thee – how great Thou art! How GREAT Thou art!

Then sings my soul, my Saviour, God, to Thee – how great Thou art! How GREAT Thou art!
